The Municipal Structure of Waitara
The City Council of Waitara, New Zealand is the governing body of the city, responsible for providing services, maintaining infrastructure, and promoting economic development. The Mayor of Waitara is elected from the Council members and is responsible for chairing all Council meetings and representing the city in various events. Why is "Waitara" called "Waitara"?
Waitara, New Zealand is named after the Māori word for 'river of tears'. The town was originally settled by the Te Atiawa people, who named the area Waitara, meaning 'river of tears', after a great battle that was fought in the area. The battle saw the local iwi suffer a great loss and the river was said to have run red with the blood of the warriors. The name has since been adopted by the town and is still used to this day.
