The Municipal Structure of Tauwhare

Why is "Tauwhare" called "Tauwhare"?
Tauwhare, New Zealand is named after the Māori chief Te Tauwhare who lived in the area in the early 19th century. Te Tauwhare was an influential leader in the local Ngāti Maniapoto tribe and is said to have been a great warrior and negotiator. He was known for his hospitality and generosity and was highly respected by the local people. The city of Tauwhare was named in honour of Te Tauwhare in recognition of his contribution to the area.
