Why is "Ruakaka" called "Ruakaka"?

The city of Ruakaka, New Zealand is named after the nearby Ruakaka River, which in turn is named after the Māori word 'rua' meaning 'two' and 'kaka' meaning 'bush parrot'. The area is said to have been abundant with these birds, which is why the river was given its name. The city of Ruakaka was then named after the river in the early 1900s, and the name has been used ever since.
