Why is "Manukau City" called "Manukau City"?

Manukau City, New Zealand was named after the Manukau Harbour, which is the second largest natural harbour in the country. The name Manukau is derived from the Māori language and translates to “wading birds”. It was named this due to the large number of migratory wading birds that can be found in the harbour. The area was also an important site for Māori, who used the harbour for fishing and trading. Today, Manukau City is a thriving hub of activity, with a population of over 400,000 people.
