Why is "Leeston" called "Leeston"?

Leeston, New Zealand is a small town located on the Canterbury Plains, just outside of Christchurch. It is believed to be named after the Leeston family, who were among the first settlers in the area. The family owned a large portion of the land and were instrumental in establishing the settlement, which eventually grew into the town of Leeston. The name was officially adopted in 1868 when the town was officially established. Today, Leeston is a thriving rural community, with a population of over 2,000 people and plenty of amenities.
