Why is "Havelock North" called "Havelock North"?
Havelock North, New Zealand is named after the British General Sir Henry Havelock, who was a commander in the British Army during the 19th century. The town was founded in 1843 by settlers from England and was initially known as "Bolton". However, in 1858 the name was changed to "Havelock" in honour of General Havelock's service in India, before eventually becoming "Havelock North" in 1876. Havelock North is now a popular tourist destination, known for its wineries, hot springs and beautiful beaches.
