The Municipal Structure of Hamilton
The City Council of Hamilton, New Zealand is made up of thirteen elected members who are responsible for making decisions that affect the city. The Mayor of Hamilton is elected separately from the other Councillors and serves a term of three years. The Council holds regular meetings and is responsible for setting the budget, developing policy, and providing services to the community. The Council is also responsible for approving building and development applications, managing public assets, and providing advice and guidance to the Mayor and Councillors.
Why is "Hamilton" called "Hamilton"?
Hamilton, New Zealand is named after Captain John Fane Charles Hamilton, an officer in the British Royal Navy. He was the captain of the HMS Esk, which was a ship that explored the region in 1841. The city was later established in 1864 and was named after Hamilton in recognition of his explorations. Hamilton is the largest city in the Waikato region, and is known for its beautiful gardens, vibrant arts scene, and many attractions.
